Things get broken. We repair them. They get a new shape. Perhaps a new identity. This applies to love as well. Because, you are yours before you are someone else’s. But what happens when we fall or fail in love? After two heartbreaks, Adrika, a fiercely independent career-girl, changes her hashtag on Instagram to #HappyGoLucky and dreams become her priority. Arjun, workaholic and socially inept, struggles with his weakness for Dimpy Aunty’s daughter Anushka and his hesitation in sharing heartaches and emotional baggage. Into this mess, steps in Dimpy Aunty, an unlikely saviour, with all her quirks and jauntiness, steering them through rough patches in unlikely ways as only she can.Insightful, bold and witty, I Tagged Her in My Heart is based on a true story that will inspire many to look at the sunny side of life when faced with darkness.
REVIEW BY SOHINEE DEY
I have heard good things about the author but never had a chance to read his books. Fortunately, this time I got a chance read this book, I Tagged Her In My Heart. From its title and cover, the first impression that I had was that of a cheesy love story but turned out that the story isn’t that cheesy.
The story mostly focuses more on showing the friendship between the four friends; Arjun, Adrika, Anushka and Ved than concentrating on forming bonds of love between the characters. Later on, a new character, Iona is introduced but her role is confined to a few pages only.
Anushka is shown to be a year senior than the rest of the three characters. The story breezes through their life highlighting on their friendship, relations and of course there is a bit of love involved.
Dimpy Aunty is a fixer! She has remedies for every situation, whether it’s a love bug or its the hectic office schedule! She plays a major role in the book. She is supportive and plays a major part in keeping these four friends together through all the upheavals.
The book says that it is based on a true story, so, I feel that the author has written from his personal experience.
I wasn’t overly excited while reading the book. To me, it was a normal story of four friends sticking together with a bit of love thrown in there. For me, it was too simple than what I prefer to read mostly.
When I was reading, it was too much “talks” and less of “shows”. I couldn’t actually visualise the scenes, I was just reading the scenes. I spotted some grammatical errors here and there and I would have preferred if the characters talked more than the author himself. I am not saying that the book isn’t good but, it could have been better.
The only character that I loved would be Dimpy Aunty. She was like a breath of fresh air. I couldn’t really connect with the other characters.
MY FINAL VERDICT
This book isn’t my personal favourite but, for people who are looking for a simple book on love and friendship with easy language can give this a try. Different readers have different preferences, so, if you are someone who have always enjoyed the author’s previous works can surely give this book a read, no matter what my personal thoughts are.
Also, there are some inspirational talks embedded within the narration. It might help you if you’re going through some tough times.
