REVIEWED BY SOHINEE DEY
I don’t normally review children’s fiction but after reading so many “adult stuff”, I knew I could do with some lighter stuff. The Diamond Heist must be a book which mainly caters to younger age group of people, but hey, I can read too even when I am not a kid anymore!
The Diamond Heist isn’t completely fictional, or at least not all the characters are fictional. Sai Daksh have sketched the characters keeping his real friends Om, Garv, Arsh and Swarit in mind. The other two characters, Aditi and Simran are fictional.
Now coming on to the plot, the book tells the story of seven agents who are recruited by the Indian Detective Agency, Delhi to complete a special mission. This mission is about a diamond heist in Mumbai, as the title reads. All these seven little kiddo detectives fly off to Mumbai to complete the mission. Don’t forget, they also have their personal guns.
As the try to solve the mystery of the diamond theft, they stumble upon many inner mysteries which ultimately leads them to the actual case. Whether they are able to connect all the dots and find the person behind the conspiracy of the stolen diamond is for you to find. On this journey, they fight off thugs, robots which also puts their skills to test and they are confronted with their new skills which they weren’t aware of until the mission.
This book is particularly aimed at children who are in their early teens. It’s better if you are someone who is at least 10 years old before you pick up this book.
Completing writing a book at the age of eleven, that too a detective story is quite an achievement for Sai Daksh. The story is a short story and the book length is also short. It’s very apt for young readers since youngsters mostly prefer to read short stories which wouldn’t take up too much of their time. The story had a nice flow and the characters were exactly how ten and eleven years old are. Restless, chilled dudes and dudettes. The dialogues showed how friendly the were to each other, always teasing one another and at the same time supporting each other. The plot was also very interesting and it was really interesting to see these little agents racking up their brain to solve the case of the missing diamond.
Since this book is mainly for young readers (I think), there are some mild violence scenes (nothing too descriptive) which might upset our young readers. There were a few scenes which hints towards death, which might be a little too much for children to take in, especially for girls. But yes, parents can join their children while they are reading this book. That way you can keep a check on them and also enjoy some time with your kids. Other than this, Sai Daksh has provided us with his brilliant penmanship and I hope he writes many more books as he grows up.
MY FINAL VERDICT
The Diamond Heist is would be a great read if you are looking for a detective story with some adventure thrown into the storyline.
