BOOK REVIEW OF THE HOLLOW PLANE BY ALLISON CARR WAECHTER

Hello Book Dragons!

I am so happy with all the independently published books that I am discovering this year! Have you read any indie books this year? Let me know in the comments below 👇

Lately I have been reading a lot of fantasy (and loving it) and came across this book called The Hollow Plane which I thoroughly enjoyed. The gorgeous cover of the book was enough to pull me in! I have posted about the book and also did a giveaway on my Instagram! If you still haven’t followed me, make sure to follow me @bookarlo and join me on my reading journey! 🥰

BOOK BLURB

Love is a weakness the powerful cannot afford.

When Mina Wildfang wakes up in a dark hole beneath the sea, her memories have been erased. The one thing she remembers is who imprisoned her: her family. The only thing she wants is revenge. But when she escapes, someone has burned her home to the ground—with her family inside. Mina decides if she cannot have vengeance, she will have the truth.

All Ashbourne Claymore wants is to live an honest life as a private investigator. He can’t remember his past, and he doesn’t want to. When a mysterious new client asks him to murder a woman named Mina Wildfang, he staunchly refuses. But he cannot help but be curious about the woman he was asked to assassinate.

When the two are drawn together by a series of otherworldly fires plaguing the city, the similarities between them are too much to ignore. Desire lights a flame that rivals the inferno coming for them. Can they survive the heat, or will they succumb to the ghosts of their past and let the city burn?

Enter a dark and glittering world of fey and witches in the first book in The Aethereals DuologyThe Hollow Plane is a sizzling mix of mystery and fantasy romance, perfect for fans of House of Bane and Blood, and The Alchemists of Loom.

BOOK REVIEW of JAGADISH CHANDRA BOSE, THE RELUCTANT PHYSICIST

I have been dipping my toes into a lot of Fantasy Fiction lately and The Hollow Plane might just be my new favourite! Set in the high society of Sirin, Allison takes us on a journey where we follow Mina, who is an Oscarovi (a witch) and Ashbourne, who is a Vilhari (a fey) working together to piece the puzzle of mysterious fires and disappearances that are destroying the land.

Mina harbours a desire for vengeance against those responsible for her family’s death while Ash just wants to work in the investigation of the fires and disappearances and lead a normal life. While Mina and Ash are two strangers to each other uniting to find the truth behind the chaos, they are people who have forgotten about their shared past.

The world-building in this book was great and the map helped too! The interaction between the two leads was interesting and kept me hooked 🦋. While the writing was good, there were times when I felt that the descriptions were a bit too detailed so at certain pages, it did feel a bit boring. But aside from that I loved everything about the book. The book also has neurodivergent representation, and I loved the fact that the FMC didn’t get “cured” for the sake of the plot, she accepted her disability and worked around it in her day-to-day life. So, it was refreshing to see a character who stayed authentic to the representation.

The author of Dark Night Golden Dawn, Allison Carr Waechter, brings you the first book in a suspenseful Gaslamp fantasy romance duology, The Aethereals. Out now in physical & eBook formats, and it’s also available to read on Kindle Unlimited! Book 2, The Ravaged Dark, coming soon!

I would recommend this book to neurodivergent people out there and to those who like to read fantasy fiction with diverse characters.
