BOOK REVIEW OF H2 LIFTSHIPS: BEYOND LUNA BY BOB FREEMAN

Hello Bookdragons!

It’s weekend already! This week I have been very active and read around 3 books!! If you are into aesthetics and books, don’t forget to checkout my bookstagram account @bookarlo! I have been posting a LOT there, so, come join me over on Instagram! 🥰

I realized that I had read a sci-fi book called H2Liftships- Beyond Luna back in February but I didn’t share my thoughts about it with you all! This was my first sci-fi book of this year and if you have been following my blog for a while, you would know that I am not the biggest fan of sci-fi, but despite that, I really enjoyed H2Liftships by Bob Freeman! It was so different and sooo out of my comfort zone but at the same time, it was like a breath of fresh air!

BOOK BLURB

A series that’s set to take you on the ride of your part road trip, part solar sailing. Into a world almost parallel to our own (but not quite.)
Soaring through the heliosphere through the asteroid belt on Solar Sail cargo ships, the unlikely crew of the LunaCola finds themselves jumping from odd job to odd job, foraging supplies from Earth and sea and hitting up the casinos around Sol to gamble their bounty and add to their pot. Their adventures cross paths with everything from pirates, anarchy, poker games to jail time.
This is a space adventure unique to its own with characters who are just as out of this realm of reality, entertaining and unforgettable. And after your cruise through the Asteroid belt, Mars, and Luna, settle down on Earth for a party in the desert. They’ll bring the Carne Asada burritos and count on you to bring the fun.

BOOK REVIEW of JAGADISH CHANDRA BOSE, THE RELUCTANT PHYSICIST

H2liftships is the embodiment of a big book. It is a big fat chunky collection of 4 books that pretty much reads as one. The story sets off with Beyond Luna, then we have The Backstory where we get to learn more about the characters, followed by Boson Wave I and finally ending with Boson Wave II.

This series is unlike any other science fiction books that I have encountered so far. It’s peculiar in the way it mixes science, pseudoscience, and a lot of make-believe. Set in the heliosphere, it is far fetched but at the same time feels like there is a probability of situations as described in the book may surely happen in the future! There are hardcore science-y elements and a lot of fiction in the other parts. Not to mention there’s an underlying sarcastic tone in the writing that I was enjoying throughout!

LunaCola is one of the H2liftship spacecrafts travelling between Earth and Luna to acquire cargo. In-depth details are shared about the spacecraft and its mechanisms along with a lot of banter between Tang and Jack and I couldn’t help but chuckle at. Space is now a place where primates, canines and a lot of other species inhabit. Canines in this future era can talk and even play poker! Accompanied by the amusing elements, there are explanations of space travel, heliospheric battles between LunaCola and its enemies and traveling .

Now the second part is where we get to read the backstories of the characters and it really helps in understanding a lot of their motives, their aspirations and how they evolved to be able to live in the outer space. The countless obstacles they had to overcome to be able to thrive in such an environment and how different life is on Luna than on Earth. The Backstory also sheds a light on human obsession with space and other planets.

If you are someone who loves space operas or are in general sci-fi readers, I would definitely recommend the H2LIFTSHIPS series. It’s a huge series but the writing is really engaging, and the banter would keep you hooked.
