The entire plot of the book is almost summarised in the synopsis. So, you would get an idea about what conspires between the pages of this book!

What is This Book All About?

template-4-29946321497552723-largeSecond Chance by Sandeep Jatwa is a story about a man named Shekhar Kapoor who happens to be a successful businessman. Along with being successful, another trait that he possesses is of arrogance. He thinks of himself as a high and mighty person who can look down his nose at everyone and regards all of his employees and the people who he meets as inferiors. He doesn’t respect anyone neither does he know what politeness means. He is arrogant, he is rude, he is…well, I am not going to say it. I think you would have thought of enough adjectives to define him by now! I leave you in charge of that!

He always searches for imperfections, no matter how hard his employees work or how hard they try to please him, he never seems satisfied and always has a string of rude words at the tip of his tongue. Can’t leave an opportunity now, can he?!

One day, out of nowhere, he receives a call from a place known as ‘City of Justice’, and a person warns him to change his behaviour or else he will meet his fate soon.

Soon after the call, he meets with an accident but he receives a second chance on his life. A second chance to improve himself and be a better person and he takes up on that second chance to make amendments for all his mistakes.

It is a mix of realism and fantasy.

What Did I Like About the Book?

Almost everything.

The plotline is very straight forward and the story actually follows what the blurb says. No extras, people! It isn’t one of those books where you read the blurb and think wow, it’s attractive and then you read the story and you feel as if the blurb was misleading. But this, this book right here, it is simple and straight forward.

The language is pretty good and the narration backs up well.

The cover designer really thought of the cover! The cover portrays exactly what the story is about.

What Could Have Been Better Though?

There were some spelling mistakes here and there and also some grammatical errors. Those could have been avoided with better editing, I feel.

The next thing is that I have noticed that the author used the word “said” extensively. Words synonymous to “said” could have been used to give better effect to the characters’ tones.

I felt that the characters could have been developed a little bit more. They didn’t sound as convincing as the author tried to make them. At least, they didn’t sound much convincing to me. A little bit of background could have influenced the characters. Shekhar especially needed more improvement. How can a person who was so cruel at once suddenly become so nice? This transformation from bad to good needed more detailing.

The blurb could have been made a little more interesting. It gives away the entire plot of the story and one might not be interested in reading it once they have finished with the blurb. So, I would suggest that the blurb be written in a short and crisp manner.

Will I recommend it?

Yes, without a doubt because if you read it, you’ll be reading what you expected to read when you first pick this book! No falsification, no mind tricks.

Also, this is a short read. You can complete it in one sitting.

My Final Verdict –

If you are looking for a short sensible read, this could be your pick.
